“I suppose....” Connally’s voice trails off as the roar of another incoming ship reaches us.

Ooh! Judging from the bass rumble, this one's bigger than the shuttle.

After looking all around, I spot the ship. It's much closer and flying low.

I was right.

“It's a Yak 290,” I tell Connally We watch it cruise by to the north.

With the four flight engines now turned vertical, it descends towards the spaceport, the rumble of a second Yak reaches us. It flies into sight pretty much where the first came into view.

Three more Yaks follow it.

“That’s odd, they usually just show up a couple at a... time.” My voice trails off as more ships appear.

Then a lot more fly in.

Dozens of ships fill the sky. As far away as the school is from the spaceport’s landing area, the thunder of the flight engines shake my bones. The sound beats against me like waves hammering a stormy beach.

“Are... are we being invaded?” Connally yells, trying to sound brave. More and more kids emerge from the school, eyes widening as they watch the ships descend towards the spaceport.
